Write direct message as two lowercase words. Use uppercase DM when the abbreviation is familiar to your readers; the plural is DMs, without an apostrophe. Send a direct message is clear in general prose. A direct message is not automatically confidential or end-to-end encrypted.
Example: Send me the address in a direct message.
Informal: Send me a DM.
When referring to a specific product or interface, match its actual labels and official names.
